Zelf stempels maken uit foam - Make your own foam stamps

19/03/2013

---
The workshop I wrote about in my last post inspired me and I made a few tags:

I used the Distress Ink colours Scattered Straw, Seedless Preserves and Rusty Hinges for every tag you see here

I tried a new technique with this one: stamping with water! See this video by Britta Swiderski, who inspired me to try out this technique.

Unfortunately I don't have that many stamps, I am on a budget. This inspired me to make my own Tim Holtz stamps out of fun foam. See the Youtube link above for more information about how to do this.

I bought two sheets of 2mm thick fun foam and some sticky tape. I stuck the two sheets together with the tape and added some tape on top (without removing the red top layer of the sticky tape) A 4 mm thick sheet would have made my life so much easier, but unfortunately this was all I could find at the shop. I then made a sandwich with the foam, the die I wanted to use and two acrylic cutting plates and put it through my Bigshot die cutting machine. I used the following dies: Branch Tree, Elegant Flourished and Hardware Findings.

---
I mounted my stamps onto a 6 mm thick sheet of fun foam, because I didn´t have any vinyl in my stash. If I had, my stamps could have been used as clearstamps. Because the way these stamps are mounted now it makes them a bit more difficult to position, but who am I to complain? I had to try my stamps out of course:

Natuurlijk moesten mijn stempels daarna meteen uitgeprobeerd worden:
 Ziet er goed uit, nietwaar?

Looking good, aren't they? Here are some close ups:

Bij deze nog enkele close-ups:
een onderdeel van Hardware findings

aangepaste flourish.

An edited flourish, because the thicker foamsheet wasn't big enough to accommodate all the die cut foam stamps.

Aangepaste Branch tree.

Edited Branch tree.

Elegant flourish

A scrap from Branch tree and another part of Hardware findings.

I cut the stamped images and adhered them to the back of the foamsheet. I don't think these stamps will last for years and years to come, but for now they will do. I had a blast making these, and I think that's what counts.
